My Art

My interest lies in working with the developmental potential of people in organisations. I believe the key responsibility of leaders is to provide an environment with the appropriate level of containment required for experimenting in the interest of learning, and I am passionate about working with leaders to enable this. This involves developing skills, and working with mindsets and behaviours.

My Practice

I focus on transformative leadership and organisational development. My interest lies in harnessing the developmental potential of people in organisations and working with leaders to increase their leadership effectiveness in the interest of improving business results. My practice centres around the pillars of leadership development, culture, change, innovative strategy development and executive team dynamics - enabling leaders to consciously develop their capability so they can transform organisations as they face into complex environments. This involves meeting participants where they are in their developmental journey, working with the dynamics in the room and supporting executives to integrate a variety of theories and models into their own practice of leadership.

My experience has been that organisations often look to leaders or managers to be ‘fixed’ rather than considering the whole system.  Ironically, the senior/executive leadership team behaviours and the impact these have on the culture and performance of the organisation, is typically under valued. One of my favourite quotes is 'an organisation will not perform at a higher level than the consciousness of its leadership' (Bob Anderson and Bill Adams). Consequently, increasing complexity in organisations makes senior leadership development a strategic priority. My view is that effective leadership starts at the top and, it is critical to work with people to integrate leadership capability across the organisation - developing capacity at the collective level will yield greater system results.

My Science

I have over 25 years experience in HR and L&D roles in both the public and private sector. Most recently, I was a senior leader at Melbourne Business School Executive Education, where for over 13 years I worked with incredibly passionate professionals on significant client work focussed on management and leadership development. I hold a Bachelor of Commerce and a Masters in Applied Science (Organisational Dynamics).

I have designed and delivered management and leadership programs across a number of industries and sectors. I'm accredited in a range of methods and instruments and these support the way I work. In particular, I find The Leadership Circle to be the one that most holistically brings together the theories of development I subscribe to, and I am currently exploring the Leadership Maturity Framework and how this influences leadership development.

I bring to my work, years of experience in managing and leading high performing professionals and dealing with the joy and the complexities this brings.  As a member of a senior leadership team, I have hands on experience of the challenges faced by these roles and an understanding of what it is like to work strategically as part of a bigger system, to lead and implement sustainable change, and to deliver outcomes.
